We asked actors from our 2017-18 Season productions Please Bring Balloons and Interstellar Cinderella what advice they had for aspiring actors! See what they had to say below and make sure to share it with any aspiring actors in your life!

Meadow

The best thing about acting is…making people feel something! In our technological age, I firmly believe in the importance of human connection. Sharing a message with people and especially our future generations that will hopefully shed light on positivity and open-mindedness!

If I weren’t an actor, I would be…a psychologist! I love learning about how the brain works as well as providing people with help and a listening ear.

What advice would you give kids who want to be an actor too? Follow your heart. Do what makes you happy! Work hard, and things will happen. Make your own opportunities!

Jake Robertson of Please Bring Balloons
Jake

The best thing about acting is that I get to go on adventures every day, and meet interesting characters and learn everything there is to know about them and their lives.

If I weren’t an actor, I would be a secret agent!

What advice would you give kids who want to be an actor too? Every kid has an unstoppable imagination. My advice is to hold on to that and never lose it. When you’re an adult you have to add determination, perseverance and hard work into the mix, but it all starts with imagination.

Cynthia

The best thing about acting is the electricity between myself and the other actors on stage. The feeling of being connected to each other and working together toward a shared goal, and putting not just part but our whole selves into the process.

If I weren’t an actor I’d be an acting teacher or a birthing doula.

To any kids who’d like to be actors I’d say do it! As for advice, when you’re playing a character, everything you say and do is because of what someone else on stage or in the story has said or done. Be fascinated by what your fellow actors are doing and saying and pay as close attention as possible.

If I weren’t an actor, I would be a Historian or civil rights activist!

What advice would you give kids who want to be an actor too? Follow every curiosity and passion you have, if you love what you are doing it doesn’t feel like work!

Sam

The best thing about acting is learning how to empathize with people. As an actor, my work is all about understanding why my character is doing what they’re doing. This process helps me learn something new about how people behave. The more I learn, the more I can make deep connections with the people in my life.

If I weren’t an actor, I would be a computer programmer. I used to love tinkering with computers. When I was in 7th grade, my friend and I created a video game on a computer we built.

If you want to be an actor, you must know why you want it. Do you want the attention? Or do you want to tell stories? You should only be concerned with what you can give to the audience, not what you can get from them; because, if you’re controlled by what people think of you, you will never want to be yourself.

If I weren’t an actor, I would be…work in Finance. If I couldn’t touch people’s hearts and minds, I would try to touch their way of living.

What advice would you give kids who want to be an actor too? Take classes, be compassionate and read a lot!

Angela

The best thing about acting is that your job is to be creative.

If I weren’t an actor, I would be a voice teacher

What advice would you give kids who want to be an actor too? I would say, do it! But don’t limit yourself. Do sports, hang out with your friends, learn an instrument. There is plenty of time to become an actor, just don’t miss out on the other cool things life has to offer.
