On Sunday, May 21, we will be presenting music from our new work-in-progress, Zoongoro Bailongo, at Joe’s Pub. Composer and children’s book author Zenen Zeferino will perform a family-friendly concert with Radio Jarocho, the premiere son jarocho group in NYC.
Zoongoro Bailongo is a 60-min bilingual play with music that tells the story of the magical town Cienega Grande, where animals magically transform into musical instruments of the son jarocho tradition (the music and dance of Veracruz, Mexico), moving them to play, sing, and dance to preserve the region’s culture.
New York City Children’s Theater and Kupferberg Center for the Arts have commissioned playwright Georgina Escobar to adapt Zoongoro Bailongo by Zenen Zeferino for the stage.
