New York City Children’s Theater invites you to participate in the Regional Competition of TYA/USA and The American Alliance for Theatre and Education’s Young Playwrights for Change competition!
Now in its fourth year, Young Playwrights for Change is a national middle school playwriting competition that offers 6th–8th grade students a new way to explore and express how they feel about important issues.
This year’s theme: Empathy in Action: Combating Bullying
Bullying is unwanted, repeated, aggressive behavior among school aged children. Both kids who bully and kids who get bullied believe that the one who bullies is more powerful. We are looking for 10-minute plays exploring possible solutions and positive change that honestly deal with the problem of bullying and its consequences.
Deadline for Submissions: Friday, January 20, 2017
Reasons to enter
- Every student who participates will have their plays read by a theater professional
- Five Finalists will have their plays produced as readings in Winter 2017
