Have you ever seen a Stuffed Animal Tea Party? Communications and Marketing Manager Nicole has thanks to her great aunt! Read on to learn more about the stuffed animal tea party and the special connection it has to our upcoming show, This is Sadie!

“They were in the living room. I have no idea how they got there, but they were listening to music and having a tea party!”

When I was a little girl, my Great Aunt Helen (great, both in relation to me and in general) would tell me a story about how her stuffed animals, without any help from her, got up in the middle of the night, went into the living room, put on some music and had a tea party. I was in awe. And I desperately wanted to be invited. I mean, who wouldn’t? A tea party? With some of the cutest stuffed animals I’ve ever seen? And there was music! Sign me up.

“They were in the living room. I have no idea how they got there, but they were listening to music and having a tea party!”

The cynical side of me tried to take over. There’s no way there was a secret stuffed animal tea party happening at Great Aunt Helen’s apartment every night. Stuffed animals can’t walk. And they certainly can’t make tea. But there were pictures! It was true – Great Aunt Helen had gotten up in the middle of the night, grabbed her Polaroid camera and was able to sneak a picture of the rebellious stuffed animals having a party without inviting any of us! Now that I had seen it, I knew it was true. And for years, she filled me in on all of the stuffed animals tea party exploits, and I never once doubted it again. I was also never invited, which was a bummer.

So imagine how excited I was when I found out we were doing a story about a little girl and her stuffed animal who comes to life and attends a tea party!?!? This is definitely a full circle moment and I cannot wait to share Sadie and her best friend Fox’s adventures with all of our young audience members at Theatre Row this March!
