Last week, NYCCT presented five plays written by some of the best playwrights in NY and NJ – Middle School Students! The plays: The Cost of Technology written by Paulina and Tahlly, written by Bernard, Battletron NX3 written by Rowan, The Use of Technology written by Shakima and Speaking written by Iris, explored the different ways technology connects or disconnects us from the people in our lives.

Bringing our playwrights’ work to life were two fantastic directors: Ayla Combes and Tyler Christie, and a group of incredible actors who volunteered their time and talents: Alyssa Barron, Amaker Smith (Ballerina Swan and the Nutcracker), Jake Robertson (Please Bring Balloons), and Laura Hankin (Wanda’s Monster, The Amazing Adventures of Harvey & the Princess and Five) as well as young actors from The New Paradigm Theatre in Connecticut: Aimee, Dereje, Jaden, Jimi, Keeme and Sydney. We are incredibly thankful to them for volunteering their time and talents to our competition!

Check out a behind the scenes look at our rehearsal, which we originally shared on our Instagram Story:

And here are some highlights from the our reading, which took place at Theatre Row on Monday, May 14th.

Know a young playwright who would like to enter the competition next year?
