What is Meet the Parent?

Last season, New York City Children’s Theater launched a new program for our adult audience members: Meet the Parent!

Meet the Parent is designed to provide opportunities for our adult audience members to connect with us and each other around issues important to them as parents, grandparents, caretakers, and fans of theater.

New York City Children’s Theater is excited to continue our Meet the Parent Series with three incredible evenings:

Monday, October 28th with Special Guest Jesse Green

Monday, January 27th with Special Guests Kathleen Chalfant & Sybille Pearson

Monday, March 9th with Special Guests Russ Kaplan & Sara Wordsworth

Our Inaugural Event!

Our inaugural guest was children’s music superstar, Laurie Berkner! Laurie spoke about the challenges of being a working parent. See highlights from the event below!

Meet the Parent with Jesse Green, Co-Chief Theater Critic for The New York Times

Our first guest of the season is the Co-Chief Theater Critic for The NY Times, Jesse Green. From 2013 to 2017 he was the theater critic for New York magazine, where he had also been a contributing editor, writing long-form features, since 2008. Before that, he wrote about theater and culture for the Arts & Leisure section of The Times while covering broader subjects for the Times Magazine. He is currently working on Shy, a book about Mary Rodgers Guettel, the pioneering musical theater doyenne (Farrar, Straus & Giroux). He is also the author of The Velveteen Father: An Unexpected Journey to Parenthood, a memoir published by Villard/Random House in 1999 that was named one of the best nonfiction books of the year by The Los Angeles Times Book Review, one of the ten best memoirs or biographies of the year by amazon.com, and one of the best parenting books of the year by Child magazine.

Join us for an intimate conversation with Jesse Green about how life in theater informs his parenting and what being a parent has taught him about theater. Executive Director Andrew Frank moderates, featuring audience questions.

Reception to Follow.
